The mission of the Independent Adoption Center (IAC) is to provide open adoption placement and counseling services to birth and adoptive families to ensure that every child grows up feeling loved by their birth and adoptive families.

All of IAC's adoption services are paid for by client fees, but as a non-profit organization IAC is also committed to providing a variety of other services and conducting research on open adoption practices. These programs are funded entirely by the generous donations of supporters like you.

You can make donations to help our work in three areas:

  1. Birthparent Counseling: Although about 200 birthparents place children through IAC each year, IAC provides counseling and referrals to about 1,000 birthparents each year. As a non-profit agency we believe it is our responsibility to provide all birth parents with supportive non-judgmental counseling, as well as crisis counseling, resources, and referrals whether or not they decide that adoption through IAC is the right choice for them.

  2. Open Adoption Research: IAC works in cooperation with a number of academic researchers who are doing research projects on the open adoption process or outcomes for children placed in open adoption. IAC is committed to ensuring that the agency is always using best practices, and this sort of research allows us to determine both long-term outcomes and best practices.

  3. New Program Development and Ongoing Support: IAC is also regularly evaluating new programs and expanding our current services. These efforts also require donations to succeed. All contributions that are not specified for one of the two efforts described above are used for new program development and ongoing support.

IAC is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. All donations will be acknowledged and are tax-deductible as allowed by law. You can make your donation two ways:

IAC is committed to excellent non-profit management and fundraising practices. Our annual report has a summary of our financial statements and the IAC IRS Form 990 can be downloaded here. IAC spends less than 5% of its funds on fundraising.
